Mariah Carey has revealed that she wasn’t too shocked while filming a scene for ‘The Butler’ in which she is spat on during a racial attack because she says it shockingly happened to her once before in real life. Mariah recalls that the incident happened during her childhood on a school bus and that someone spat in her face directly:

”That actually happened to me. I know people would be in shock and not really want to believe or accept that, but it did. That right there that was almost the deepest thing to me in the movie because I know what she went through – and it happened to be a bus as well. It was a school bus, in the face and in the same way.”

The singer and actress reveals that in school she encountered more racism when she was drawing a picture of her family one day in class and the teacher insisted that she has given her father the “wrong colour”, even though Mariah insisted that she was quite accurate:

”I said, ‘No that’s the colour that he is.’ They made me feel like something was wrong with me, that it was a bizarre freakish thing.”
