Scarlett Johansson Didn’t Want to Rely on Sexuality for Role

‘Avengers Assemble’ actress Scarlett Johansson has said that she is always questioned about her sexuality in interviews, which she believes is linked to her famous curves, but she now finds the topic boring and isn’t interested in it:

”I think that’s just a by-product of being curvy. I never think about it, except when I get constant questions in interviews about sexuality. I really have nothing to say about any of that stuff because it’s so boring.”

Scarlett, who plays Black Widow in the new film, says that often female superheroes are shown as the obviously sexy characters, and she didn’t want this to be the only element of her role in the film. She says her character is very interesting because of Black Widow’s dark past. Scarlett worked with the creators to make sure the role was not only about sexuality as she wanted to create more depth:

”A lot of the time these superheroine characters are relying on their sexuality and being posy and sexy as opposed to being a badass. Those characters are so silly and I don’t have anything to contribute to that. But my character, Black Widow, has this dark past, so why not celebrate that? When I met with Marvel they agreed that there’s not really been a good female superhero movie and they wanted to get away from that overly sexy superheroine thing.”
