Dua Lipa will make her acting debut in the upcoming Barbie film directed by Greta Gerwig.

The Albanian-British pop superstar is the latest surprise addition to the Barbie roster, which also features Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, as well as Nucti Gatwa (Doctor Who), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Simu Liu (Shang-Ci), and Nicola McCoughlan (Derry Girls) as other Barbies and Kens.

After the news broke, a poster featuring Dua wearing a shocking blue wig (very Katy Perry – California Gurls) went viral online, with the subtitle reading “this Barbie is a mermaid.”

It was confirmed that Dua has recorded several new tracks for inclusion on the film’s soundtrack, marking her first official release since the highly successful Future Nostalgia era came to an end, and her official casting follows months of rumors that she had indeed joined the cast of Gerwig’s big blockbuster.

Director Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird) and her collaborator, screenwriter Noah Baumbach, present Barbie (Marriage Story). Very little is known about the film’s plot, but here’s what we know so far:

“After being expelled from “Barbieland” for being a less-than-perfect doll, Barbie sets off for the human world to find true happiness.”

Dua, on the other hand, will likely have her acting aspirations boosted by landing the lead role in what is shaping up to be the definitive cinematic achievement of our time.

She will also co-star with Henry Cavill in the upcoming spy thriller Argylle, though the film’s release date is currently unknown.

But don’t worry, Dua’s still a big deal in the music industry. She has stated that she will be making a stylistic shift for her third studio album, which will serve as the follow-up to Future Nostalgia.

Launch date for Barbie: July 21.
