Is the end of legendary South African leader Nelson Mandela’s life drawing near? According to reports, Mandela’s family have been asked to consider turning off his life support machine to end his suffering. Mandela was admitted to hospital early last month with a lung infection and now is being kept alive by a life support machine. Doctors are urging the family to come to a decision:

“(Mandela) has taken a turn for the worst and that the Mandela family have been advised by the medical practitioners that his life support machine should be switched off…. Rather than prolonging his suffering, the Mandela family is exploring this option as a very real probability.”

Mandela, who is now 94-years-old, has been in a serious condition for the last two weeks. Court documents have stated that he is currently being kept alive by a breathing machine and is facing “impending death”. The documents read as follows:

“The anticipation of his impending death is based on real and substantial grounds.”
