According to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, an MRI on Monday revealed that Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams suffered a high ankle sprain on Sunday.

According to Pelissero, he will be out for “a few weeks” due to the injury. Staley confirmed on Monday that Williams will be out for weeks, not days.

Williams was badly injured while attempting to make a catch in the fourth quarter. As he came down from his leap, he was rolled up on by a Seahawks defender who was attempting to make a tackle.

He writhed in pain before rising but limped off the field with the assistance of trainers, not putting any weight on his right leg. He finished the game with seven receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown, leading all Chargers wideouts.

The blows on Sunday continued a pattern for a Chargers team that has been plagued by injuries all season.

Williams has been Justin Herbert’s top target this season, leading all receivers with 37 receptions for 495 yards and three touchdowns. Even when he isn’t targeted, his deep-threat abilities are critical to the Chargers’ offense.

The Chargers (4-3) have a bye in Week 8, which is welcome given their current wide receiver situation. L.A. returns to action in Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons on the road, and Williams is unlikely to be available.
