Genshin Impact 4.2 has introduced a thrilling new World Boss, the Hydro Tulpa, and in this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to conquer this formidable foe.

Genshin Impact 4.2 Hydro Tulpa Boss Guide

Location

The Hydro Tulpa resides in a new underwater cavern introduced in Version 4.2. To find it, venture to the Beryl Region in Fontaine, located north of this area. The boss is submerged, so you’ll need to use your diving skills to reach it.

Swim to the westernmost area of Chemin de L’Espoir, and you’ll come across a grand entrance to an underwater cave named “Tulpa’s Swaddling.” The Hydro Tulpa awaits at the end of this cavern.

How to Defeat

The Hydro Tulpa is a humanoid boss formed from water droplets and boasts a variety of attacks, including water spears and melee strikes, as demonstrated in the 4.2 livestream. To emerge victorious, follow these strategies:

  • Multiple Phases: The boss is expected to have multiple phases. As you deal damage, it will transition to the next phase, so be prepared for evolving challenges.
  • Elemental Resistance: Hydro attacks are only 60% effective against the Hydro Tulpa, while other damage types, including physical attacks, are only 10% effective. Plan your team accordingly.
  • Dodge the Water Spears: The Hydro Tulpa will hurl water spears your way, so make sure to evade them by timely dodging.

  • Beware of Half-Tulpas: The Hydro Tulpa can spawn Half-Tulpas that deal additional damage. These can be absorbed by the boss, strengthening its attacks. Use elemental attacks like Freeze and Melt to disrupt the absorption process.
  • Desiccant Potion: To protect yourself from Hydro damage, consider taking a Desiccant Potion, which increases your water resistance by 25% for 300 seconds.
  • Respawn Timer: The boss has a respawn time of approximately 3-5 minutes. If you wish to face it again, teleport to another area and return to expend more Resin for another battle.

Best Team Composition

Given the Hydro Tulpa’s substantial health pool (816,000 at level 90), assemble a team that can withstand the fight. Consider including a healer in your lineup to help your characters recover from powerful AoE attacks.

Pyro, Cryo, and Dendro characters are ideal, as you’ll need to eliminate the baby Tulpas that spawn during the fight. Stay tuned for updates on recommended team compositions for this boss.

Drops

In Genshin Impact 4.2, players will have the opportunity to encounter the Hydro Archon Furina for the first time. Ascending her character is a key goal for many players, and the items dropped by the Hydro Tulpa may prove valuable for this purpose.

The drops from the Hydro Tulpa boss include 2-3 units of a new item called “Water That Failed To Ascend.” Additionally, you may receive:

  • Varuna Lazurite Sliver
