SUMMARY

  • Tyler Allgeier
  • Zack Moss
  • Chuba Hubbard
  • Juwan Johnson

1. Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons (49%)

As a rookie, Allgeier was a yards-after-contact machine. He also appears to have ascended to the top of Atlanta’s backfield hierarchy, out-touching and out-gaining veteran Cordarrelle Patterson 22 to 9 on Saturday.

Allgeier now has a season average of 4.9 yards per carry and has caught 15 of his 16 targets. He’s set to face Arizona, a defense that has given up big games to Latavius Murray and Pierre Strong Jr. in recent weeks. If Allgeier is available, he should be your first choice in the backfield.

2. Zack Moss, Indianapolis Colts (44%)

Moss dominated snaps (36) and touches (13) in Indy’s backfield, proving that he’s the Colts’ back to roster if you can’t resist grabbing one. He has few style points as a runner, and he’s only caught one ball on two targets in the last two weeks, not to mention he’s part of a hopeless offense.

3. Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers (38%)

Hubbard was on a roll entering the weekend, averaging 13.7 touches and 77.0 scrimmage yards per game in his previous three games. On Saturday, he broke off a pair of long early runs for the Panthers en route to a 12-carry, 125-yard performance.

In Week 16, Detroit’s defense had not allowed a running back to rush for 80 yards since October, but Hubbard and D’Onta Foreman both had 100-plus yards by halftime. At this point, it’s clear that Carolina plans to run the ball 40 times or more whenever the game flow allows it — and occasionally when it doesn’t.

The matchup with Tampa Bay this week is tough, but Hubbard’s workload is not a concern.

4. Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints (31%)

Johnson is still the guy New Orleans has relied on near the goal line this season, with 10 red-zone targets in 14 games. His 36 receptions have resulted in seven touchdowns. This year’s Saints receiving corps has been decimated by injuries, leaving Johnson as one of the few reliable options.
