Everything You Need To Know About The GOT Spin-off Series In Development Right Now

Despite Game of Thrones’ widely mocked ending, HBO is determined to turn author George R.R. Martin‘s universe into a massive TV franchise. As of now, we know that House Of The Dragon will be the first spin-off to air, but it is not the only GOT-related series in development; there are seven other shows in the franchise’s queue. Everything you need to know about HBO’s GOT spin-off series is right here.

Game of Thrones GOT Spin-off Series In Development Right Now

House Of The Dragon

GOT spin-off series 1

House Of The Dragon is set 200 years before the beginning of Game Of Thrones and focuses on House Targaryen as family members compete for control of the Iron Throne. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), the last acknowledged descendant of House Targaryen, was one of the original show’s most popular characters, and her fight to restore her family’s name and reclaim the Iron Throne carried the series through some difficult seasons. But it remains to be seen whether her ancestors are as compelling as Dany, or if their schemes can match her righteous but slightly insane crusade.

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms

GOT spin-off series 2

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms will follow Ser Duncan the Tall, also known as Dunk, a hedge knight whose squire is Prince Aegon Targaryen, also known as Egg. Season one will be based on Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight, which is set 90 years before the start of Game of Thrones and explains how Dunk and Egg met, befriended, and began working together. The showrunner for A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, which is still in the works, is Patriot creator Steve Conrad.

Ten Thousand Ships

GOT spin-off series 3

Ten Thousand Ships takes place 1,000 years before the beginning of Game of Thrones, making it the most recent in the prequel show timeline. The series will follow Princess Nymeria of Rhoynar as she leads her people on a journey to find a new home after a war decimates their land and population. Ten Thousand Ships’ showrunner, Amanda Segel, has “delivered a couple drafts” of the show’s scripts thus far, according to Martin.

Snow

Snow is still in its early stages of development. According to Martin, the series was created by Harington, who also hired the showrunners and writers. This show will be a bit of a risk because it will be a prequel to Game of Thrones, which means there will be no narrative or plot points to draw from in Martin’s work. Martin’s extensive character development, as well as the sheer number of pages devoted to Snow, will almost certainly help inform the story.

The Sea Snake

The Sea Snake revolves around Lord Corlys Velaryon, who was played by Steve Toussaint in House Of The Dragon. The show appears to be set before House Of The Dragon, during Velaryon’s legendary voyages, which earned him the title of “Greatest Seafarer in the History of the Seven Kingdoms.” Toussaint has stated that he will not play Velaryon in The Sea Snake, but rather “some younger, prettier guy.” The co-creator of Rome, Bruno Heller, has been named showrunner, and the series is currently in the script stage.

The Golden Empire (And Two Mystery Animated Series)

The Golden Empire is one of the lesser-known spin-offs, but it is also one of the most intriguing. It takes place in Yi Ti, one of the oldest and most advanced societies in Martin’s world. Because of its distance from Westeros, this region is somewhat mysterious, making travel and trade difficult. While no plot details are available for The Golden Empire, it is one of three animated Game of Thrones spin-off series currently in development. The other two animated shows are confirmed to be in the works, but their subjects and titles are unknown at this time.
