They say Game 7 is the greatest term in sports, but if you are a supporter of one of the teams in a game 7, it is the most nerve-racking word in sports. The Celtics play the Sixers in Game 7 at TD Garden on Sunday. This win-or-go-home game will begin at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

  • FOR THE SIXERS

Philadelphia had an opportunity to win the series at home, but Boston’s 95-86 win in Game 6 on Thursday forced a Game 7 to be played.

Philadelphia tied Game 6 at 81-81 on a jumper by NBA MVP Joel Embiid with 6:13 remaining, but the 76ers only added one more field goal.

In the fourth quarter, Philadelphia missed 15 of its 20 shots from the field, including eight 3-point attempts.

“We just stopped moving the ball,” Embiid explained. “I don’t think I touched the ball in the final four minutes.” A lot of good looks went unnoticed. But I didn’t touch the ball.”

Tyrese Maxey also added 26 points while James Harden had 13.

Philadelphia will try to advance past the semifinals for the first time since Allen Iverson led the 76ers to the NBA Finals in 2001.

Doc Rivers, the coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, has a 6-9 record in Game 7s, which is more than any other coach in NBA history. He has never won a Game 7 away from home.

Two of Philadelphia’s three series wins came in Boston.

“If I have to go to war, Game 7 in Boston, I would want to go with this group,” Philadelphia’s Tyrese Maxey said. “I know we have some fighters. I know we have some tough players on our team. “I’m ready to start.”

Last season, Boston trailed Milwaukee 3-2 in the semifinal round, but won Game 6 on the road and Game 7 at home.

The winner on Sunday will face the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference finals. This series is set to begin on Wednesday in either Boston or Philadelphia.

On Thursday, Jayson Tatum went hot at the right time to help the Celtics outscore the 76ers 24-13 in the fourth quarter.

Tatum, who averaged 30.1 points per game during the regular season, made only one of 13 field shots and none of his first six three-point attempts through the first three periods.

However, he outscored Philadelphia 16-13 in the remaining 12 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, he was 4 of 5 from 3-point range.

Tatum ended Game 6 with 19 points on 5-of-21 shooting, including four 3-pointers in the closing 4:14 of the game.

Gallinari (knee) will miss Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the 76ers on Sunday, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac.com.

Gallinari has yet to play this season due to an offseason operation on his left knee. Although there has been no indication that Gallinari is close to returning, the Celtics have not ruled him out for the remainder of the playoffs.
