5 Celebrities Who Trained Hard for Physically Challenging Roles

Many films can demand a lot from the actor or actress, and action roles can be some of the toughest, requiring those who sign on to be strong, train hard and push their bodies to the limit. These 5 celebrities have accepted a challenging part that required them to be in top physical condition and they have opened up on the process of preparing for their part. From bulking up to fighting in heels, these stars each faced different challenges as the trained hard to make it look convincing on camera.

Jude Law

For his part in ‘Repo Men’, Jude had to stay in top shape throughout filming: “It’s tiring but you know, in all honesty the whole job then becomes about staying in shape, in the right mindset and taking precautions because you don’t want to get injured and hold the film up. So it’s a challenge. But it’s a fun challenge.”

Lily Collins

Lily trained for three months prior to filming ‘The Mortal Instruments’: ”I trained for three months before filming in Los Angeles, then every day before during or after work with the stunt department, as well as our physical fitness trainer. I’ve always been an active person, and I really enjoy getting down and bruised, I guess. With this one I had to hang with all the guys, and keep up. In heels, and a very short dress.”

Sandra Bullock

Sandra had to push herself for ‘Gravity’: “I pushed my body to the extreme. Strength-wise, I had to know I could do anything Alfonso asked of me at any given point, so not a day went by that we didn’t train.”

Tom Cruise

Tom has had to train for several big roles and says it’s demanding: “There is difficult physical stamina and preparation. Sometimes I’ve spent months, a year, and sometimes two years preparing for a single film. A sprinter for the Olympics, they only have to run two races a day. When I’m shooting, I could potentially have to run 30, 40 races a day, day after day.”

Zac Efron

Zac had to bulk up to play the part of a marine in ‘The Lucky One’: ”It was pretty intense. I went thought sort of marine school, I did training and a lot of weight lifting to really look the part. I wanted to do the marines justice because these are real American heroes, this is a bit more sensitive than anything I’ve played before.”
