Angelina Jolie recently had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as a preventative measure against cancer, and wrote an article about her decision on the New York Times website. Now, celebrities have reacted to the brave actress, who candidly spoke about her struggle with cancer and how she reached the final decision to have the surgery. Believing Angelina’s openness on the subject is helping other women who may face the same issue, these stars have lauded Angelina for being so brave and honest during a very vulnerable time.
Camille linked to the article, calling Angelina smart to make the decision she did: “Angelina Jolie Undergoes Surgery After Cancer Scare.. so smart to do this especially if there is a genetic link.”
Kelly also has a cancer gene similar to Angelina, and commented that she is happy some attention is being brought to the important matter: “I agree with this 100 per cent… I actually do have the cancer gene. My mum made all of us go and get tested after she found out she had it and got her double mastectomy. One day I know I will have to do it too, because if I have children, I want to be there to bring them up and support them… I have been a child of a cancer survivor, so being on that end of it as well, is really, really hard to deal with. I applaud Angelina… because she’s bringing attention to this and now people are going out and getting tested for it.”
Melissa shared the article via twitter, commenting that the piece is very informative for all women to read: “I hope all my ladies read this important, emotional, & informative piece. Knowledge is power.”
Michelle has gone through a similar cancer battle and thinks Angelina has done all she can: “When I heard the news about Angelina, I saw another mother putting her kids first. It must have been so scary to suddenly have to make the decision but instinct kicks in, even the thought that you may have this cancer strikes the fear of God into you. Angelina has done everything she can and I hope she takes comfort from that.”
Mindy told her followers to read the article: “To women who follow me on here: I truly hope you take a few minutes to read this moving & informative oped.”
