SUMMARY

  • Deebo Samuel
  • Brandin Cooks
  • Corey Davis
  • Zack Moss

1. Deebo Samuel

UPDATE: Samuel (knee/ankle) did not participate in Thursday’s practice but was seen jogging and running off to the side during the media-access portion, according to ESPN.com’s Nick Wagoner.

According to David Lombardi of The Athletic, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that he expects Samuel (knee/ankle) to return to game action in “three-ish” weeks.

Based on Shanahan’s comments, the 49ers appear to be ruling Samuel out of Thursday’s game in Seattle as well as the team’s Dec. 24 home game against the Commanders, but a Week 16 return at Las Vegas could be in the cards for the talented wideout if he recovers quickly from the MCL sprain to his left knee and the left ankle sprain he suffered in Sunday’s 35-7 win over the Buccaneers.

For the time being, San Francisco’s primary receiver options will most likely be Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, and Ray-Ray McCloud.

2. Brandin Cooks

UPDATE: Samuel (knee/ankle) did not participate in Thursday’s practice but was seen jogging and running off to the side during the media-access portion, according to ESPN.com’s Nick Wagoner.

Cooks (calf) is out of Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.

With Nico Collins (foot) also out, Chris Moore, Phillip Dorsett, and Amari Rodgers will be Houston’s top three receivers once again this weekend. Cooks’ next opportunity to play will be against the Titans a week from Saturday.

3. Corey Davis

Davis (concussion) was listed as limited on Monday’s practice estimate by ESPN.com’s Rich Cimini.

According to Ethan B. Greenberg of the Jets’ official website, coach Robert Saleh is “very confident” Davis will be cleared for Thursday night’s game against the Jaguars.

Davis was unable to practice last week before being ruled out of Sunday’s loss to the Lions, but the wideout appears to be on the mend ahead of Week 16 action.

4. Zack Moss

Moss and Deon Jackson are expected to be the Colts’ primary backfield options for the final three games of the season, with Jonathan Taylor unlikely to return after suffering a high-ankle sprain in Saturday’s 39-36 overtime loss to the Vikings, according to Matt Adams and Mike Chappell of Fox 59 Indianapolis.

When Taylor left the game after only two snaps, Moss took over as the Colts’ clear lead ball carrier, carrying the ball 24 times for 81 yards.

Jackson was still active in his own right, gaining 55 yards on 13 carries and hauling in his lone target for a one-yard touchdown.

The Colts built a 33-point halftime lead before suffering the biggest collapse in NFL history on Saturday, so 37 carries between their top two backs are unlikely to be sustainable volume over the final three weeks, as they may not see a lead that big again.

Based on their usage against the Vikings, Moss appears to be the Colts’ option 1A on the ground heading into Week 16 against the Chargers, with Jackson handling more of the passing-down work.
