Rita Ora Speaks on Landing Fashion Campaigns & Being Glamorous

Singer Rita Ora has landed numerous fashion campaigns recently – most notably for big name brands such as DKNY and Cavalli. Opening up on endorsing fashion labels and landing advertisements, Rita says it’s something musicians now have to do in order to make money because the music industry itself doesn’t offer a big payout. She explained:

“There’s not much money in music nowadays at all. So endorsements help me massively. The industries are intertwined – you’ve got Gaga doing Versace, Rihanna doing Balmain, Miley Cyrus doing Marc Jacobs. I’m just a fan of fashion, how clothes make a woman feel. It’s not just material, it’s a story.”

Rita is known for always dressing up, complete with perfect hair and makeup, and she says she never likes to be photographed any other way, because she enjoys having a glamorous image and she also believes it’s part of her job to play that part on a daily basis:

“I love being glamorous. I hate being caught off-guard at an airport; I’m, ‘Sh*t!’ You’re an entertainer, you’re meant to be an illusion, giving light out there, something to believe in. Like all my idols. Madonna, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe – they were myths of greatness.”

Speaking on the topic of selfies, Rita thinks taking photos can be confidence boosting and she wants to be able to look back at her past snaps some day in the future:

“Every girl, without fail, loves to look at a sexy picture of herself. Whether it’s a selfie, topless on Instagram or me doing photo shoots in my bra and knickers, it’s because I wanna look back and show my kids I had nice photos.”
