It’s possible that someone will eventually dethrone him the way LeBron James will dethrone Kareem. LeBron James didn’t hesitate to name Kevin Durant, a star player for the Brooklyn Nets, when asked who has the best chance to surpass him.

In an interview with ESPN’s NBA insider Dave McMenamin (H/T Clutch Points), LeBron said, “I mean Kevin Durant comes up — the first name that comes to mind for sure.”

“His name is not ‘Easy Money’ and ‘Slim Reaper’ for no reason. He does it so effortlessly. His ability to shoot the three ball, shoot the mid-range, get to the paint, and also shoot 85-90 (percent) from the free-throw line. Those are the key ingredients, and most important is about being available on the floor.”

“Great scorers,” James says of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

This NBA season has seen some truly incredible scoring displays. Donovan Mitchell, of the Cleveland Cavaliers, scored 71 points, Joel Embiid, of the Philadelphia 76ers, scored 59 points, and Luka Doncic, of the Dallas Mavericks, scored 60 points, pulled down 21 rebounds, and dished out 10 assists for a triple-double.

As of late, the NBA has been stocked with an unprecedented number of talented players. James says there is no shortage of “great scorers” in the NBA who could eventually overtake him on the career scoring list.

“We have a lot of great scorers in our league, KD being one of them,” James added. “Kyrie, Luka — he’s young, Embiid, Giannis. Those guys put numbers on the board. You have to have a little luck as well. We all know that health is the most important — not only in sports but in life in general — it’s a real good luck to still be on the floor and still be able to do it.”

The only thing that could prevent Durant from overtaking LeBron on the all-time scoring list is his history of injuries. Durant sprained his right MCL after colliding with Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler in the third quarter of the Nets’ last game against the Heat. This is his second season in which he has experienced this injury.

Kyrie Irving and Joe Harris What Do You Think About Kevin Durant’s Injury?

Kyrie Irving, a superstar for the Brooklyn Nets, is aware of the team’s disadvantage without Kevin Durant for the next two weeks. The star point guard is aware, however, that he and his teammates must keep playing at a high level despite their current predicament.

“With K we know what we’re up against with him not being in [the] lineup,” Irving said of Durant’s injury via the New York Post. “We can say it every single day, but we don’t have time for any excuses. We’ve just got to keep moving forward and stay mature about it.”

Joe Harris, a star shooter for the Nets, has commented on Durant’s injury.

“It’s hard to foreshadow exactly what’s going to happen. … So, it’s a lot of hypotheticals,” Harris said. “But what we do know is that we do have a lot of depth. So that’s positive for us.”

It remains to be seen if the Nets can keep their winning streak going without Durant.
