Duping with Ditto and Smeargle: New Duplication Glitch Rocks Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Duplication glitches have become an unwelcome guest in the Pokemon world, and Scarlet & Violet haven’t escaped the trend. This time, the culprit involves a level 100 Ditto, a glitchy Smeargle, and a Kyurem with a secret weapon: Imprison.

Here’s how to pull off the Smeargle & Ditto Duplication Glitch:

  1. Prep your team: Train your Ditto to level 100 and ensure it has the Limber ability. Place Kyurem or Black Kyurem in the second slot, holding the item you want to duplicate. Make sure Kyurem/Black Kyurem only knows the move Imprison. Finally, add a Pokémon that knows Trick to your team.
  2. Head to the Terarium Savannah: Find the specific glitched spot as shown below.

  1. Lure a Smeargle: Use bait or other methods to attract a wild Smeargle to the glitched spot.
  2. Transforming Ditto: Have Ditto Transform into Smeargle. This will trigger Smeargle to use Sketch, copying Ditto’s Transform.
  3. Quick Switch: As soon as Smeargle uses Sketch, quickly switch to your Kyurem/Black Kyurem.
  4. Imprison Lock: When Smeargle transforms into Kyurem/Black Kyurem, use a battle item to stall until the transformed Smeargle uses Imprison.
  5. Struggle and Flee: Let the Pokémon battle with Struggle for a few turns, then flee the fight.
  6. Glitched Smeargle: You’ll find a glitched Smeargle in the area holding a duplicate of the item you were holding on Kyurem/Black Kyurem! Now, use Trick on it to steal the item, flee, and repeat the glitch as many times as you like.

Using this glitch is undoubtedly exploiting a game mechanic, and it’s likely to be patched by Game Freak in the future. While it might seem tempting to amass a stockpile of valuable items, remember that using glitches can break the competitive balance of the game and diminish the sense of accomplishment from earning items through legitimate means.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to use this duplication glitch is up to you. Just be aware of the risks and consider whether the short-term benefits outweigh the potential consequences.
