Though new Love Island host Maya Jama prefers to remain mum about her romantic life, she isn’t above dropping a few cryptic hints every once in a while.

Love Island viewers think new host Maya Jama has been shady in the villa

While relating to the islanders about how difficult it is to find “The One,” the popular presenter seemed to take a swipe at her famous exes, which viewers of the new series on ITV2 caught on the first night.

Maya shared this news with the newly single residents of Love Island: “Don’t forget finding your perfect match is never that simple. Trust me, I know.”

Not for the first time, the 28-year-old ex-Radio 1 DJ has spoken candidly about her own heartbreak. Previously, she dated Stormzy (age 29), and she was briefly engaged to NBA player Ben Simmons.

It was reported in December 2022 that the new Love Island host and NBA star Ben had broken up due to difficulties in their relationship caused by their conflicting schedules on opposite sides of the Atlantic.

A Conversation Between Maya and Vossi The couple dated from 2016 until Maya left their London home in 2019, and Stormzy has since admitted that he “made mistakes” during their time together.

In recent months, the exes have shown signs of patching things up and becoming friends again, leading many fans to optimistically speculate that they may have even secretly reconciled.

Maya, however, put an end to those rumors earlier this month when she told The Times: “I’m really, really single right now.

“Newly single. It’s only been a month.. but it’s nice.”

She continued to talk about her past relationship with Stormzy with the publication, seemingly downplaying the seriousness of their romance due to their ages.

“We were so young when we met, just beginning our careers. I was starting at MTV. He’d not even released a single at that point. We were just little babies,” she explained.

“I don’t think either of us knew it was going to be such a big thing. We were just: we’re young and in love and we’re going to go for it and work really hard. We’re just together.”

Stormzy said in his 2018 autobiography that he was devastated by his 2019 experience with Maya.

“I think my break up with Maya was still really heavy on my heart,” the award-winning artist told GQ. “I’d never experienced a breakup and the feelings that come with a breakup. And I never wanted to ever be in a position again where I felt what I was feeling.”

Maya has remained largely silent about the circumstances surrounding their breakup, but Stormzy has spoken openly about his regrets on numerous occasions.

Heavy Is The Head, Stormzy’s 2019 apology album, features a song titled “Lessons” in which he expresses remorse for the way he ended his relationship with his ex-girlfriend.

Some lines from the song go like this: “I knew a woman more wonderful than a Disney one.”

This is how the second verse of the song goes: “fast forward now; my nephew’s still asking for his Auntie Maya; guess this is the karma for what I did to Maya I just stood and let it burn.”

Maya has never commented on or even acknowledged her ex-platinum-selling boyfriend’s breakup album.

After being apart for a year, Stormzy told Charlamagne tha God in a 2020 YouTube interview that he has “never loved anyone how I’ve loved her.”

“I love her wholeheartedly. I’ve never loved anyone how I’ve loved her,” during their honest discussion, he finally broke down and admitted.

The BRIT Award-nominated musician continued by expressing his uncertainty as to whether Maya would accept him back, saying: “I would love for that to happen but I don’t know…

“I would love to be the man who she needs, I would love to do all the things that make this work. I want to marry her, I want to have her children.”

To dispel rumors that Maya and Stormzy had rekindled their romance late last year, the new host of Love Island dispelled those rumors.

A representative told the press in November 2022 that “the reports about the romance being rekindled are untrue,” despite the widespread Internet speculation to the contrary.
