5 Stars Speak on Being Called Fat

No matter what your weight, being called fat is always hurtful. These 5 stars have all been bullied about their weight, while some have even developed eating disorders because they became so conscious of their size, such as Demi Lovato who was told by bullies when she was younger that she was fat. They have all commented on how being called fat made them feel – some say they take it as a compliment while others ended up in tears.

Beth Ditto

Beth Ditto feels like it is a compliment because it happens so regularly: “I read things where people call me a ‘fat ugly b**ch’ and it’s amazing. I feel like ugly is beautiful. I am at the point where I can take that as a real compliment.”

Pink

Pink was once called fat by a boy who approached her and ended up crying over it: “I get called fat all the time. Once a boy came up to me and said, ‘You’re not Pink, you’re too fat.’ I went home and cried.”

Khloe Kardashian

Khloe was called fat in school, but found comfort in her family: “Having someone in your class call you fat, ugly, too tall and so on, you start to think all those things about yourself. And, if you’re like me, those words are played on repeat inside your head. But when I was at home, I felt loved and safe. My sisters were always a safe haven for me. I knew they would always play with me and make me feel like I was one of them.”

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly Osbourne was regularly upset by fat comments but didn’t know what to do about it: “One day some horrible obnoxious teenager screamed out a car window to me, ‘You’re fat!’. I went to my parents bawling, ‘I would rather be called ugly than be called fat!’ I never wanted to do anything to fix it … For a very long time, Mrs. Field’s salted cookies were my favourite thing in the world … It’s hard to get out of a hole you’ve dug so deeply.”

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato was bullied in school, and she was regularly teased about her weight: “I know first hand what it’s like to be called names and to be affected by things. They would call me fat, they would call me promiscuous in different words. At the time, when I was 12-years-old, that was like the end of the world. To me, bullying is one of my biggest platforms. Let’s change the world.”
