5 Celebs Open Up on Their Cancer Scares

Posted by PZ on September 23rd, 2013

There is nothing scarier than facing cancer. These 5 celebrities have all had their own personal cancer scares. Finding a lump or examining a mole, they’ve luckily been pro-active and have ensured their health is all clear by visiting a doctor. Thankfully, most of these stars didn’t have to battle cancer and were relieved to find that it was a false alarm, while others had to take preventative measures to make sure they’d be cancer free. Doing what they have to in order to stay in good health, some have had cancerous moles removed while one of these brave stars even had a double mastectomy when she found out she had the “faulty” cancer gene which also lead to her mother’s tragic early death. Here are 5 stars and their cancer scare stories.

Alexandra found a lump in her breast but it luckily wasn’t cancerous: “I got completely freaked out. I was in the shower just checking myself and that’s when I realised you need to go to a doctor and start going twice a year.”

Angelina Jolie

Jolie recently had a double mastectomy when she found out she carried the “faulty” cancer gene which caused her mother’s death. She commented after the surgery that she is relieved: “My mother fought cancer for almost a decade and died at 56,” before adding, “I can tell my children that they don’t need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer.”

Ewan McGregor

Ewan had a cancerous mole removed from below his right eye and says the doctor luckily got rid of any possible  danger: “I just went to have them checked, you have to be careful if you’re pale skinned and you spend time in the sun, with moles, I went to see a specialist who thought they were better to be removed, and indeed he was correct.”

Geri Halliwell

At the age of 18, Geri found a lump on her breast and had to wait three days for her results which terrified her: “At the time I was terrified and I wish I’d known more about being breast aware. Breast cancer is very rare in younger women, but it can happen.”

Heather Mills

Heather Mills found out she had a tumour which shocked her: “An MRI scan picked up a tumour in the top of my left leg, which is the same one I had amputated below the knee 19 years ago. I had to go back into the MRI machine and they put a dye into it. Doctors said it had been there for some time. It all happened very quickly. Thankfully it was all fine. Doctors told me the tumour was benign, not cancerous.”
