5 Celebrity Parents Who Won’t Let Their Kids Grow Up in Hollywood

Wanting to shield their children from a difficult life constantly surrounded by paparazzi and media attention, these 5 celebrity parents have decided to uproot their lives in Los Angeles and move away from the spotlight. Hoping their children can grow up surrounded by family or with the ability to have a normal childhood, these loving parents have made the difficult decision to move away from Hollywood in order to give their children an upbringing more similar to what they might have experienced themselves. Some moved back to their hometowns while others purchased large ranches for their children to spend their days. Others move their family around the world to give their children a broader perspective on life.

Angelina Jolie

According to an insider, Angelina has kept her family on the move so they get a broader view of the world:  ‘She hates the idea of them growing up in the insular world of Hollywood as the spoilt brats of movie stars who expect everything to be handed to them on a plate.’

Julia Roberts

Julia left Hollywood behind when she expanded her family, moving into a ranch in Taos, New Mexico away from the spotlight: “It’s peaceful, and it’s a relief, I always say you can’t be in a bad mood here. I don’t know if it’s New Mexico or just the mountains, but you can’t be silly in a negative way. You can be silly in a fun, whimsical way, but the petty, trite things that make you go, “Oh, God, it’s not the right size” or “Why is this happening like this?”—that kind of stuff doesn’t exist so much here. Everything is kind of clear.”

Matthew McConaughey

Matthew bought a family home in Texas so his children could be away from Hollywood and they could grow up in a place he loves: “Family, I grew up here. We got children, family values, neighbors and common sense – and I can catch a green light in Texas… I feel like a local when I’m walking around here, going down the street in my neighborhood, in my town.”

Nick Lachey

Nick hopes to relocate when his son gets older so he can grow up with family: “I’ve never embraced the idea of raising my kid in L.A. I want to move back home in a few years when Camden starts school. Vanessa and I share a common understanding that family is the most important thing and we both appreciate the idea of raising our kids around their grandparents and cousins. I can’t wait till (our kids) are running through the woods together like Drew and I used to. It’s going to be a lot of fun to watch them grow up together!”

Vera Farmiga

Vera lives in upstate New York outside of the city so her family can have the freedom they need: “I like being off the grid, I want to be self-sufficient and live off the land. I’ve become a farmer in my spare time. It’s really sort of a great place where I can be centered and have a great perspective on what it is I want and need.”
