5 Celebrities Who Say They Want to be Taken Seriously

Feeling as though they’ve lost the respect of either the public or the industry they work in (or both!) these 5 celebrities have spoken out in a bid to bash their old image in the hopes that they’ll be taken seriously for what they do. Justin Bieber may have been booed at the Billboard Awards recently but he still took the time to ask to be taken seriously as an artist. ‘The Hills’ reality star Lauren Conrad has admitted that it was difficult to be taken seriously by the fashion world following her stint on the show, while others find they are wrongly portrayed by the media to be slackers or party animals and they just want to be taken seriously for the time they put in to their own work efforts.

While accepting an award at the Billboard Awards, Justin asked to be taken seriously as an artist: “I’m 19 years old; I think I’m doing a pretty good job. And basically from my heart I really just want to say it should really be about the music, it should be about the craft that I’m making. This is not a gimmick, I’m an artist and I should be taken seriously and all this other bull should not be spoken.”

‘The Hills’ reality star says it was hard to be taken seriously in the fashion world because of her time on the tv show: ‘It was difficult to be taken seriously. But I think the fact that I went to school to study fashion and worked in the industry helped me. I think it’s a good thing to feel like you have to prove something, because you’re always going to have to work a little bit harder. At the end of the day it’s going to hurt your feelings if someone says something mean about you, but I’ve learned to take a step back and ask myself if it’s really going to affect me, if this person who I’m never going to know or meet doesn’t like me. And it doesn’t.”

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay says it’s hard to see other actresses her age being taken so seriously because she believes she works just as hard: “It’s hard for me to have to watch that. I work just as hard as those people and sometimes (the media) make it seem that they’re more mature because their fan base is more mature and my fan base is younger. So they’re writing about me going out all the time. It’s easy to over-publicise me. I’m a young kid and I have a lot of pressure… (but) I know work is work.”

Paris Hilton

Paris doesn’t have a very serious reputation and that often annoys her: “It makes me angry because people don’t know the real me. Yes, I do get paid to go to parties. But when you see me at a party, I’m always working or promoting something. I work with so many organisations, especially Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.”

Taylor Momsen

Taylor said that she is often over looked as a musician because if her young age. She previously commented: “I think people don’t really take me seriously because I’m 16. And they think most 16 year olds don’t know what they want to do. But I actually really do, because I’ve been thinking about it since I was two… I love working. I’m a workaholic, and no one believes it. I’m in the recording studio until three in the morning. I am angsty. I’ll be angsty until I’m 80 years old. I think that keeps things fresh. But I always think angst is such a derogatory word toward teenagers. It just means you’re figuring s**t out, and I don’t know why that’s a negative thing.”
