5 Celeb Moms Speak on Losing Their Baby Weight

When your pregnant in the spotlight, there is a great deal of pressure to spring back to your former shape immediately after the birth. These 5 stars have all spoken on how they approached the weight loss, while still juggling their newborn and getting used to life as a parent. Hilary Duff recently welcomed her first son, and was met with harsh criticism for not working off the weight quickly – she has explained that she is working on it at a pace that is fun and suits her, while allowing herself plenty of time to recover from the birth.

Amy Adams

Amy was stunned by what her body can do throughout the pregnancy and so didn’t rush herself to get back into shape: “Being pregnant finally helped me understand what my true relationship was with my body – meaning that it wasn’t put on this earth to look good in a swimsuit. I was like, ‘Look, I can carry a baby! I’m gaining weight right, everything is going well.’ And I’ve had that relationship ever since. I’ve been working out when I can… but losing weight is not my number one priority. It’s part of my job to return to some semblance of what I was before. But I don’t feel I’ve ever made my career on my rockin’ bod.”

Milla Jovovich

Milla spent a lot of time trying to drop the weight: “Basically, I lost 10 pounds a month for four months. Since I was around 200 pounds when I gave birth, losing 40 pounds was just a drop in the ocean. I put away the cake and pizza. But the weight didn’t slip off. It took me another eight months to get it all off.”

Melanie Brown

Mel started an eating program and worked out regularly after her baby was born: “I really allowed myself the chance to pig out during this pregnancy, so I’ve got a bit of weight to lose. I was eating morning, noon and night, I was a house. The wonderful thing about this eating plan is it is all portion controlled and calorie counted, so I don’t have to think. I have to eat regularly, every two to three hours. Even though I’m tired I’m coping really well, if I keep eating well and combine it with cardio workouts three times a week, then it’s a done deal.”

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer found losing the weight easy at first, but towards the end it got tough: “I thought the weight was going to drop off easily because I’d been in shape my whole life. But it wasn’t easy. It was an uphill struggle. I had gained about 50lbs while pregnant. The first 30lb dropped off like that and I was so pleased. Then I had to lose the last 15 or 20lbs that just didn’t want to go. I had to diet and work out a lot.”

Hilary Duff

Hilary has taken the sensible approach and is taking her time: “I’m not stressing about it (baby weight). I’m working out because I honestly missed it during my pregnancy – getting in that good, hard workout. I need endorphins in my life to be a happy person. I want my body back but I’m not freaked out or anything – just working out and trying to eat a little bit healthier.”
