Sarah Jessica Parker on Designing Bags & Wearing Painful High Heels

Former ‘Sex and the City’ star Sarah Jessica Parker recently launched her debut accessories collection at Nordstrom and is now gearing up for her second collection for Autumn/Winter 2014. The actress is planning to include several bag designs, but admits she can’t remember her own first designer bag. However, she is excited to help other women create their own fashion memories and loves the idea of being a part of something special:

“I truthfully don’t remember my first designer bag! I believe it was given to me as a gift by an old boyfriend. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to carry many special and beautiful bags. The idea of a woman having her own special bag moment with one of our handbags is a delightful thought.”

Sarah comments that as well as being beautiful in design, she has made sure that all of her pieces are still very practical and be used day to day:

“I wanted our bags to be beautiful but also, and perhaps most importantly, practical, with the ability to carry all of the odds and ends that one might need.”

She may have worn heels every day on set for her famous role as Carrie Bradshaw, but Sarah says she no longer wears high heels when she doesn’t have to, and when designing her own, she wanted to make them as comfortable as possible because she knows how painful they can be from her own experiences:

“I wear heels when I need to wear heels. I don’t wear heels to walk my kids to school. I’m not running on cobblestones. I know there are women who do wear heels all day for work, and that’s hard on your feet, and it hurts after a while. So we were crazy thoughtful about that (in desiging the collecton). It’s the ball of your foot that takes a beating.”
