5 Celebs Who Say They’ve Had a Mid-Life Crisis

Turning the 40 mark is supposedly when it happens, although really it can hit any time – that feeling of worry that your life is passing you by that causes you to take stock of where your life is, and makes you want to change where you are, while for others it is less dramatic and they just take up some new hobbies or decide to wear mini-skirts! These 5 stars have all admitted to going through something they call a mid-life crisis, although they all have a different degree of seriousness!

Colin Firth

Colin related to his character George in ‘A Single Man’ because of the midlife crisis his character went through: “I could relate to George’s midlife crisis because mine has been going on since I was about 30. I have been in one for at least 20 years. I guess as long as midlife is there, the crisis will be there. I find it very hard not to be 19. I miss that time.”

Tim Robbins

Tim Robbins believes that everyone goes through something as they get older: “A mid-life crisis – I think we all go through something, it’s inevitable, it’s unavoidable. You’re staring some kind of frightening thing down. It’s when you pass 40, inherently we double our age when we think about life. At 40 you can imagine 80. You start thinking about how many years you’ve got left, and you start thinking, ‘What the hell am I doing here?”

Paul Weller

Paul says he had his crisis earlier on in life, but managed to get over it and is now glad it is out of the way: “I got (my midlife crisis) out of the way 10 years ago – drinks, drugs, and those were the good bits. It’s a bit like being barmy for a while and then the smoke clears. It’s good to get it out of the way early.”

Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant has discovered a love for cars that came out of no where: “I have a new obsession with cars. It’s almost too embarrassing to talk about. Motor racing. I go on motor racing trips. I get taught how to drive and now go to bed and read my iPad all about how crankshafts work or disc brakes. It’s weird. I don’t know where it’s come from. It’s a midlife crisis. That’s exactly what’s happening to me.”

Dannii Minogue

Dannii says that turning 40 hasn’t really changed her, but she still loves wearing hotpants: “I can’t understand people when they ask me if I’m worried about hitting 40. It’s great that I’m here, everything is getting better. Who cares about a few wrinkles? I’m very happy to be here, this is just another chapter of my life… I actually think I may be having a mid-life crisis – instead of getting rid of my short skirts, I’m totally embracing them. I went out and bought myself a black leather jacket. I’m definitely having a rock-chick moment.”
