5 Celebrities Who Hate Selfies

Selfies (and even selfie sticks) are unavoidably everywhere now – but these 5 celebrities have revealed that they hate it! They dislike having cameras shoved in their faces by fans or just think pausing to take constant photographs detracts from an overall experience. Opening up on why they now hate selfies, these celebs explain why you won’t find them spending hours picking out their best snaps to upload to Instagram!

Amy Poehler

Amy believes taking selfies detracts from the actual experience: “When I was a kid, you’d go to a party or a punk rock show and you’d have fun, and you’d bring a camera, and you’d take pictures, and those pictures would stay inside the camera. Pictures were an addition to the experience. Now the picture is the experience. If I’m hanging out with a friend, and they take a picture of me, it’s like “Ugh.” I mean, I hate looking at pictures of myself. It immediately takes me out of the experience.”

Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict says people need to live in the moment more and selfies take away from that: “What a tragic waste of engagement. Enjoy the moment. Do something more worthwhile with your time, anything. Stare out the window and think about life.”

Colin Firth

Colin dislikes when fans throw cameras in his face to take selfies with him: “People coming up and saying something nice is always welcome. But when you’re being secretly photographed, that’s not so nice. I would rather shake hands with someone and exchange a few words than take a selfie.”

Emma Thompson

Emma thinks it’s quite a narcissistic habit: “I wouldn’t dream of taking a selfie with anyone. God almighty! That’s to take narcissism to its unspeakable extremes. No, get a life, everyone. Just saying.”

Karl Lagerfeld

Chanel fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld hates when people take selfies around him: “I hate selfies. Don’t use your film for ugly purpose.”
