Discovering from a young age that they weren’t attracted to the opposite sex, these stars have spoken on finding out that they’re gay and how they they came to understand their sexuality.

Anderson remembers back to childhood and believes he always knew he was gay: “I’ve always known I was gay from the time I was a little kid. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t aware of it, even before I knew what it was or the name of it.”

Beth was around 15 when she discovered her attraction to women: “When I realised I was gay, I was really afraid of it. I didn’t want to go to hell. ‘I hated my friends’ boyfriends because I wanted them to hang out with me. I had crushes on my friends and lots of confusing things. The jealousy wasn’t normal.”

Charice says she has known since she was 5 years old: “I knew [I was gay] when I was 5. I was in grade school and I saw this girl, and I felt different. I didn’t know what it was, but I just knew … it felt special. And when I was 10, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s it; I’m gay.”

Jane says that at age 12  she saw two men holding hands and she realised she wanted a female version of what she saw: “[I thought], ‘That’s what I have… I am the girl version of that’. When I grew up. I didn’t want to be too tall. I didn’t want to be too loud. I didn’t want to be gay.”
