5 Celebrities Speak on Using Homophobic Language

There is obviously no good reason to ever use homophobic language – maybe if your playing a homophobic character it makes sense on-screen, but these many celebs have all been slammed for their own personal use of words that aren’t kind to gay people. Many rappers still use homophobic terms in their music and they say it’s a part of the culture to use such words in a negative context in their music but that they don’t really have anything against gay people at all. Actor Alec Baldwin continues to land himself in hot water time and time again for his use of cruel anti-gay language, especially when he’s threatening the paparazzi. His daughter Ireland recently rushed to his defense, insisting that her father is not a homophobe. These days, blurting out words that are deemed homophobic is a huge risk to take and can result in the end of a career. Here is what these 5 stars have to say on the topic.

Alec says he just used the wrong words: “I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have–and for that I am deeply sorry. Words are important. I understand that and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support. I understand Up Late will be taken off the schedule for tonight and next week.”
