5 Celebrites Who Don’t Drink Alcohol

Posted by PZ on September 19th, 2012

These 5 stars have all sworn off drinking alcohol, at least for now. Some just overdid it when they were younger and are burnt out from partying now that they’re older and wiser, and it might even remind them of a rough patch in their lives which is why they avoid it now. For some it’s a career move because they have to keep their vocal chords in peak condition, while others say they can have fun without it so don’t think they need it in their life. They all have their reasons for going teetotal – here are 5 celebrities you won’t see hogging the free champagne at any star studded parties.

Ellie Goulding

Ellie was force to give up alcohol after receiving advice from a professional regarding her singing voice: “I’ve given up drinking on the advice of a vocal doctor I saw recently in America. He’s advised Madonna, Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi – you name them he’s sorted them out. No more acid reflux for me!”

Leona Lewis

Leona says she doesn’t like the taste of alcohol and can have fun without it:”I don’t drink. I haven’t for years it tastes like hairspray to me – I can have a great time without alcohol. I don’t need that to get me up on the dancefloor, I’m there already. I’ll sometimes have a little Red Bull. That’s my little buzz. I find some people’s attitude to drinking ridiculous. I think it’s so funny that people think you have to drink in order to have fun. It’s such a stupid mindset! A lot of my friends are like, ‘I need a drink to get on the dance floor!’ I don’t need that ‘help me to relax’ thing. If I’m around my friends then I can really relax and have a good time, that’s all I need.”

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly used to binge drink but these days won’t touch any alcohol: “I don’t drink at all. Even a glass of wine at dinner would probably mean me going home, getting s**t-faced and then being on drugs and doing something stupid that I have to spend the next three months apologising for. I don’t like drinking that much as I hate throwing up and the taste of alcohol. I’d look at somebody who has a half-empty glass in front of them and think, ‘How can they leave that?’ whereas mine, it’s like ‘Glug’ and it’s gone. ‘Can I have another one? I’ll be alright.”

Jason Segel

Jason loves to drink but can’t do it in moderation so he’s quit for now but probably not forever: ”I f***ing love to drink, but I’m not really capable of moderating. I haven’t sworn off it forever. But then, I hope I don’t drink again.”

Ewan Mcgregor

Ewan gave up drinking because he felt it was destructive and these days continues to be teetotal: “Drinking is a very self-centred way of being. I was successful and felt invincible – drinking and just living the life. I had a problem, which is why I stopped and I haven’t had a drink in more than 10 years now.”
