Zooey Deschanel on Bullying: “Nothing Could be as Hard as Middle School”

Quirky actress Zooey Deschanel is just so brilliantly quirky all the time – why would anyone want to bully her? Well, apparently she had a pretty rough time in middle school. She says that people regularly teased her and she describes the whole experience as “really bad” but luckily she was able to get over it in time:

“People really teased me. It was really bad. Nothing could be as hard as middle school. There were insecurities that I think I would have worked through a lot faster if I’d had certain tools and could have connected with certain people earlier.”

Even though she went through a divorce recently, she says she still believes strongly in true love and she often looks at her parents relationship or her grandparents relationship as a source of inspiration for how it can be if it’s right:

“[True love] that lasts forever… yes, I do believe in it. My parents have been married for 40 years and my grandparents were married for 70 years. I come from a long line of true loves.”

Speaking on her ideal man, Zooey says she is attracted to people like her and she loves to surround herself with creative people:

“I’d be more likely to go for somebody who is like me. Well, I like creative people, so whatever that means… Yeah, authentic and creative.”
