SUMMARY

1. Antonio Gibson

UPDATE (JAN. 8): Gibson (knee/foot) underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a fracture in his foot.

UPDATE (JAN. 5): Gibson (knee/foot) did not practice Wednesday, according to Ethan Cadeaux of NBC Washington.

Antonio Gibson (knee/foot) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Browns.

He has been dealing with a foot injury for a few weeks and then sprained his knee in last Saturday’s loss to the 49ers.

A Week 18 matchup with Dallas will be Gibson’s final chance to play in the 2022 regular season, and perhaps his final chance until next fall if things don’t go well for the Commanders these next two weeks.

2. Elijah Mitchell

UPDATE (JAN. 8): Elijah Mitchell (knee) was activated from injured reserve on Saturday, according to Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News.

UPDATE (JAN. 5): Mitchell (knee) will practice Wednesday, according to Coach Kyle Shanahan, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Elijah Mitchell (knee) is slated to practice this week, which would open a 21-day window for the 49ers to activate him from injured reserve.

He is dealing with his second MCL sprain of the season, which has sidelined him since Week 12. He suffered the injury Nov. 27 and was given an accompanying recovery timeline of 6-to-8 weeks. So far, five weeks have passed, so the 49ers will start to ramp up Mitchell’s on-field work in the coming days.

3. Christian McCaffrey

UPDATE (JAN. 8): McCaffrey (ankle/knee) has no injury designation for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.

UPDATE (JAN. 5): McCaffrey (ankle) will not participate in Wednesday’s practice, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic.

According to Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News, McCaffrey is considered day-to-day with a mild ankle sprain.

His condition will need to be monitored ahead of the Cardinals game this weekend. In any case, McCaffrey’s practice participation in the coming days is likely to be hampered by his current ankle injury.

4. Travis Homer

UPDATE (JAN. 8): Travis Homer (ankle) was placed on injured reserve on Saturday, according to Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle.

UPDATE (JAN. 5): Homer (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times.

Travis Homer (ankle) is listed as out for Sunday’s game against the Jets.

Homer was forced to miss Week 16 in Kansas City due to an ankle sprain, which prevented him from practicing during Week 17 preparation.
