SUMMARY

  • Cooper Kupp
  • Kenny Pickett
  • Kenneth Walker III
  • Jeff Wilson Jr
  • Dameon Pierce

1. Cooper Kupp

UPDATE: According to Andrew Siciliano of DirecTV’s “NFL Sunday Ticket,” Rams head coach Sean McVay stated on Tuesday that he is “hard pressed” to see Kupp (ankle) return from injured reserve before the season’s end.

Kupp was placed on injured reserve in mid-November after undergoing surgery to treat a right high-ankle sprain.

His recovery time was estimated to be 6-to-8 weeks. The short end of that timeline positioned Kupp for a possible return as early as Week 17, but McVay isn’t counting on the All-Pro receiver suiting up again this season, despite the Rams being 4-9 and on the verge of being eliminated from the playoffs.

Kupp’s focus will likely shift to getting healthy for OTAs, but assuming quarterback Matthew Stafford (spine) is also ready to go for the start of the 2023 season, the 29-year-old receiver should be a strong first- or second-round pick in fantasy drafts once again.

2. Kenny Pickett, quarterback, Pittsburgh Steelers

UPDATE (Dec. 17): Coach Mike Tomlin said on Friday that Pickett (concussion) will be listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Panthers, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.

After rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett left the game in the first quarter with a concussion, the Pittsburgh Steelers were forced to use Mitchell Trubisky.

Pickett’s first documented concussion in his NFL career. Consider him doubtful for Week 15. Even if he’s available, he’s not a good fantasy option against the Carolina Panthers defense.

3. Kenneth Walker III, running back, Seattle Seahawks

UPDATE (Dec. 17): Walker rushed 12 times for 47 yards and caught four of five targets for 32 yards in Thursday night’s 21-13 loss to the 49ers.

In Week 14, the Seattle Seahawks were greatly missed by rookie running back Kenneth Walker.

Unfortunately, he may have to miss another game. Walker missed all of last week’s practice sessions due to an ankle strain. It does not bode well for his Week 15 status.

Walker was listed as a ‘limited’ participant on Monday’s NFL injury report. It’s a step in the right direction, but these are only estimates.

He should still be considered highly doubtful to play in Week 15. Even if he does, Walker at less than 100% against a 49ers’ run defense allowing fewer than 90 rush ypg is not a matchup any fantasy manager should want a part of on a short week.

4. Jeff Wilson Jr, running back, Miami Dolphins

UPDATE (Dec. 17): Wilson (hip) is listed as questionable for Saturday’s game against the Bills after being limited in Thursday’s practice, according to Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins’ official website.

On a 20-yard run against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14, Miami Dolphins running back Jeff Wilson Jr. suffered a hip injury.

Miami took him to the locker room on a cart while he limped to the sideline, and he was ruled out after halftime.

Wilson Jr. appears unlikely to face the Buffalo Bills on a short week. Raheem Mostert could emerge as a FLEX option, but Buffalo’s run defense has been outstanding in recent weeks.

5. Dameon Pierce, running back, Houston Texans

UPDATE (Dec. 17): Pierce (ankle) is out of Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.

In terms of rookie running back injuries in the NFL, the Houston Texans released Dameon Pierce after he injured his ankle against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Texans face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 15 at 1 p.m. ET, an early game that will help fantasy managers determine which path to take at running back.

We’ll consider Pierce questionable to face the Kansas City Chiefs based on Lovie Smith’s post-game comments.
