TV Round-Up!

– What’s Smuldering behind her sapphire eyes? Sapphic desires! Possibly. And only for the character she plays on TV. Cobie Smulders of CBS’ How I Met Your Mother has presented the possibility that her character Robin Scherbatsky might be a lesbian, after five seasons of being unlucky in love with the fellas. Dubbing Robin “kind of a slut,” Smulders says that it would be an interesting acting opportunity. I can pretty much guarantee that God is being inundated with fervent prayers from guys who came of age (pun totally intended) watching Smulder’s current co-star Alyson Hannigan lez out all those years ago on Buffy. And since God loves a little girl-on-girl as much as the next guy, who knows what the next season might hold?

– And in other news about adorable gays, Ty Burrell is scoffing at criticism that questions ABC’s Modern Family’s tolerance of homosexuality. On the show, Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) are a committed gay couple with an adopted (super cute) baby, and the show’s portrayal of them has been praised as an example of acceptance as well as for its realism. Viewers have noticed, though, that Cam and Mitch aren’t often shown being physically affectionate with one another. But Burrell, who plays half of the couple representing the traditional nuclear family, points out that the third main couple, a May-December relationship, have never kissed on-screen, either. He says, “I just don’t think that it will have that much of a frame around it. I don’t think we’ll have a very special episode of Modern Family. I think it will come basically, naturally.”

– And what the heck, we might as well throw in something about the gayest show on television now that Chuck Bass is using Blair Waldorf as a beard: Glee! Daniel Radcliffe, that owlish British kid who starred in some movie about a magician or something – Hairy Pigtrotter? That sounds right. – has expressed interest in a cameo. To his credit, he fully admits that he’s probably not good enough: “I’m not sure I’m ready for that yet. They’ve got standards like Kristin Chenoweth!” Ya damn skippy they do! Radcliffe can be a surprisingly funny actor, as proven by his guest-turn on Extras, but that was a sort of wry British wit; I’m not sure if he could pull off the campiness of Glee. He is about a foot shorter than Cory Monteith, though, so there’s inherent comedy in that.
