As ridiculous as it may sound, no team is more motivated than the Giants to assist in pulling this off right now. The farm system of the New York Yankees is still productive. San Francisco’s season feels more washed out than ever. There is an open position. There’s nothing binding Donaldson to whichever new team he joins after 2023, when none of this will matter.

Nobody wants to assist the Yankees. This isn’t something new. But New York knows all about missing out on Correa, who clearly wanted to make it to the big city — they missed out on him a year ago when they agreed to take on Donaldson’s cash.
