THE WITCHER’S NETFLIX WRITERS REACT TO FAN BACKLASH

The Witcher Netflix series has been under fire for quite some time. Since Henry Cavill announced in late October that he would be leaving his role as Geralt of Rivia at the end of Season 4, but speculation has continued.

Even though the split between Cavill and the show’s writers appeared to be amicable, with the actor passing the torch to Liam Hemsworth, it didn’t stop claims that the writers despised the original Witcher books by author Andrzej Sapkowski, as well as the CD Projekt Red games.

Many fans believing Cavill left due to creative differences, with many disliking the different directions the show took with the books and games. Thousands of people have signed petitions calling for the show’s writers to be fired and Cavill to be rehired.

However, after showrunner Lauren Hissrich shared her perspective on Cavill’s departure, other writers on the team followed suit, defending the series against the backlash.

WHAT HAVE THE NETFLIX WRITERS SAID ABOUT WITCHER?

Writers who have worked on previous and upcoming seasons have spoken out in support of The Witcher Netflix series and Lauren Hissrich’s direction.

Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Season 3 writer, says on Twitter: “Lauren is one of the best showrunners I’ve known, the writers are among the most dedicated and supportive ever, season 3 has some of Cavill’s (and our) best work, and what comes after will blow people’s minds,”

Season 2 writer Matt D’Ambrosio not only echoes what Grillo-Marxuach says in his own Tweets, but he also speaks out against the former writer on the show who added to the speculation – though he isn’t named explicitly.

Former writer Beau DeMayo claimed in a Q&A Instagram story that some of the show’s writers were either not fans of the books and games or actively disliked them. This fueled the fire, with many fans viewing DeMayo’s account as proof of what really happened behind closed doors.

In a separate Twitter thread, D’Ambrosio refuted this, reaffirming his love for the games, books, and the fact that working on the show was and still is a dream job.

WHERE DOES HENRY CAVILL STAND ON LEAVING THE WITCHER?

Cavill has not stated his exact reasons for leaving the show. While the actor’s passion for the books and games lends credence to reports that he attempted to leave The Witcher after Season 2 due to creative differences, it was never confirmed.

We haven’t heard anything since his initial Instagram post announcing his departure from the show, and we probably won’t. At least not anytime soon.
