UPDATE (Dec. 18): Last week, Mike Williams returned from a nagging ankle injury and quickly surpassed 100 yards. After three full practices, he should pass Palmer this week. Against the Titans, Williams is a strong WR2 candidate.

UPDATE (Dec. 13): Williams caught all six of his targets for 116 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins’ 23-17 victory on Sunday.

UPDATE 9: Mike Williams (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.

UPDATE 8: Williams (ankle) was seen participating in individual drills during Thursday’s practice, according to The Athletic’s Daniel Popper.

UPDATE 7: Williams (ankle) missed practice on Wednesday.

UPDATE 6: Mike Williams (ankle) will miss the Raiders game on Sunday.

UPDATE 5: Williams (ankle) wasn’t practicing Thursday, but he was spotted off to the side working with Chargers’ Director of Sports Performance Anthony Lomando.

UPDATE 4: Williams (ankle) will miss Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.

UPDATE 3: Williams (ankle), who is scheduled to play against the Chiefs on Sunday, is expected to handle a normal workload.

UPDATE 2: After a full practice Friday, Williams (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.

UPDATE: According to Popper, Williams joined Allen in the Chargers’ walkthrough on Friday after practicing in a limited capacity on Thursday.

Williams (ankle) returned to practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday and could return to game action this Sunday night.

Williams will almost certainly be labeled “questionable” after two consecutive limited sessions to end the week.

However, the fact that he was on the practice field should give fantasy owners hope for a possible Week 11 return.

Williams’ return to the Chargers offense would provide a much-needed boost to an offense that lacks a big-play threat.

Williams did have his best game of the season in Week 2 against the Chiefs, hauling in eight passes for 113 yards and a touchdown.

Williams enters 2022 fresh off a breakout campaign in which he posted his first-career top-30 fantasy campaign (12th), which landed him a pricey offseason contract extension.

Williams saw more high-percentage targets last season, but still ranked among the top 15 receivers in yards per reception and end zone targets for the fourth consecutive season.

One concern is that, after a hot start, Williams reverted to his pre-2021 usage and production. During Weeks 1-5, he had a 26% target share and was the No. 2 fantasy WR.

After that, he saw a 19% share and was WR25. In total, he had eight top-20 fantasy outings, but was 40th or worse in his other eight games. Of course, Williams is one of standout QB Justin Herbert’s top two targets in one of the league’s best offenses. That keeps him in the WR2 discussion.
