The claim that Gwyneth Paltrow was hit by a skier is “not plausible,” the court has hears

After examining Terry Sanderson, 76, who was injured in a ski slope accident involving an Oscar-winning actress, a radiologist concluded that Sanderson’s injuries were not consistent with a collision of that nature.

The traumatic brain injury suffered by a 76-year-old man could not have “plausibly” been caused by his collision with Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow on a Utah ski slope, the man’s lawyers told a US court.

The 76-year-old Terry Sanderson claims that Gwyneth Paltrow “slammed” into him from behind at the Deer Valley ski resort, causing him to suffer brain damage and multiple broken ribs. He is suing Ms. Paltrow for $300,000 (£245,000).

The retired optometrist further claims that the Academy Award winner actress “bolted” from the scene.

The accusations against Ms. Paltrow have been called “utter BS” by her attorney.

She claims she was hit with a “full body blow,” and her lawyers have told the Park City jury that Mr. Sanderson was the one who crashed into her.

The star of Shakespeare in Love is countersuing Mr. Sanderson for $1 (£0.81), claiming that he is trying to capitalize on her fame and fortune by exaggerating his injuries.

However, the radiologist who examined Mr. Sanderson after the crash, Dr. Wendell Gibby, testified that the plaintiff would have tried to protect himself if he had collided with Ms. Paltrow head-on.

He said: “I think it’s very unlikely that this would have been caused by Terry running into Gwyneth Paltrow.

“I don’t think it would be plausible that if he were running into her he would have broken the ribs on the side of his chest – he likely would have had his arms extended, he would have protected himself.

“Had he been the person running into her, I don’t think he would have sustained these types of injuries.”

According to Utah statute, the skier who is lower on the mountain should be given the right of way.

Both Ms. Paltrow and Mr. Sanderson claim the other skier collided into them from below, causing their skis to become entangled and ultimately causing them to crash.
