Super Nintendo World: Toad’s voice can be both cute and annoying

As technical rehearsals for Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood have begun, more information about the theme park is becoming available online in anticipation of its official opening on February 17th.

Among the videos that have caught our attention is one in which the titular Toad takes on the role of executive chef at the Toadstool Café. In the clip, Toad invites customers to kick back, relax, and chow down on some tasty fare at the café. Look at this:

 

It’s one of the few times a Mario character has been given full voice acting, and the results are… ambivalent. Yes, Toad has a charming voice, but his gravely intonation might grow tiresome after a while.

Nonetheless, it’s a fascinating look at what the Mario universe would sound like with full voice acting on board, and we’d love to see this implemented in a future Mario title. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, set for release on April 7th, 2023, is the next best thing.
