It’s a battle of Western Conference teams on the hardwood in the Lone Star State looking to pick up a victory. The Phoenix Suns are on the road as they make the trip to take on the San Antonio Spurs Saturday night.

The Spurs have won 99 of the 85 regular season games between these two teams, but the Suns have won the last seven. That includes a 133-95 road win on December 4, 2022, in the first game of the season between the two teams.

Cameron Payne (foot) has been out since Dec. 13 with no clear timetable to return to action. Devin Booker (groin) missed three games, played four minutes on Christmas against the Nuggets and has been out since: he is expected to miss at least four weeks, putting his earliest return as early February. Meanwhie, Landry Shamet (foot) has missed the last five games, last taking the floor on January 16.

  • The Suns Star Chris Paul: Continues hot streak

In Thursday’s 99-95 loss to Dallas, Paul finished with 22 points (9-16 FG, 4-7 3Pt), six rebounds, 10 assists, and one steal in 38 minutes of action.

Despite the loss, the veteran floor general looked as good as ever, shooting well from the field and dishing out 10 or more assists for the third game in a row since his return from a seven-game absence due to a hip injury.

Paul has averaged a double-double in his three games back on the court and is shooting 53.5 percent from the field during this stretch.

Devin Vassell (knee) had surgery and last played January 2 against the Nets. He has no timetable for return at this point. Romeo Langford (adductor) missed the last two games while Richardson (knee) and Sochan (quad) each missed Thursday’s game.

  • Keldon Johnson: Top scorer for the team

On Wednesday, Johnson played 33 minutes for the 113-104 loss to the Lakers and scored 25 points (9-20 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT).

While some of his fellow Spurs made more eye-catching plays, Johnson was right there the whole game, making crucial 3-pointers and free throws when it mattered most.

Johnson scored 36 points against the Nets recently, setting a new career high, and in seven games since returning from a two-game absence, he has averaged 23.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 43.1 percent shooting.
