‘The Voice’ judge Shakira has spoken on getting to grips with motherhood for the first time. She recently welcomed a son named Milan and she candidly says that she is still in the process of figuring out motherhood, even though she thinks this might be a lifelong process. The singer says that being a mother is neither completely blissful or horrible, but a mixture of emotions and feelings:

“I’m still trying to figure it out. And I have a feeling I will try to do the same for the rest of my life. Some people put it like it’s very idyllic, some people put it like it’s a torturing experience, but it’s not quite one thing or the other. It’s like life – it comes with everything.”

Speaking on her relationship with Spanish footballer Gerard Pique who is the father of her child, Shakira says that they both have their own worlds and that keeps their relationship healthy because they can have their own space and be themselves:

“He has his own world and that’s actually one of the healthiest things about the relationship. I know that he’s the one person who is with me not because of any interest other than the love than unites us. There’s nothing I can offer him beyond my womanhood — does that word exist in English?”

On what direction she wants to go with her sound, Shakira says she has no idea but is excited to try new things:

“I have no idea of where I want to go musically, but I’m fine that way. I don’t need to remain faithful to any concept, you know.”
