The buzz around who will play the coveted role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is finally starting to settle, now that Rooney Mara has been cast (which, go me, I sort of called a few weeks ago when the shortlist was made public).

The list of 5 actresses that was released a few weeks ago caused a stir because most of the girls listed were not exactly “names.” A number of more established actresses had been rumored to be in talks for the part, including Natalie Portman (too old), Emma Watson (too delicate and not that great an actress), and Carey Mulligan (a favorite, but totally the wrong look). But here’s a name I had never heard mentioned till now: Scarlett Johansson.

I think there’s probably a reason that her name never cropped up: because that would have been a bloody awful decision since she’s a crap actress. But it seems that it was her figure as much as anything that knocked her out of the running. Scar-Jo’s got more curves than a capital S, and Lisbeth is supposed to be skinny and sharp-looking. Since the movie will most likely include nudity (which, allegedly, Scarlett wasn’t happy about), it would have taken a body double, CGI, and possibly clear packing tape to keep the girls in hiding. If she really was in talks for the part, I’m sure she’s disappointed, but considering how many roles her boobs got her, it’s only fair that they’d cost her one, too.
