Russell Brand Opens Up On Overcoming Heroin Addiction

Russell Brand has opened up on how great it feels to have overcome his drug and sex addiction, saying he feels “privileged” to be able to have come through his addiction and successfully launch his acting career. The ‘Arthur’ actor has been sober for 8 years now, in which time he has rocketed to fame and married pop sensation Katy Perry. Russell commented:

“I’ve been sober for eight years now. It’s a great privilege and I’m overcome with gratitude right now. Katy just sent me a photo of herself with Frank McAvennie, he was my favourite footballer when I was younger, and I thought, ‘Wow, my wife’s a pop star, she’s meeting Frank McAvennie’, he was a womanising bad boy, and I’m in ‘Arthur’, it’s crazy.”

Russell says he feels great gratitude that he was able to overcome his addiction:

“I’ve been clean for eight years, nine years ago I was a junkie but I feel overcome with gratitude right now.”

Katy and Russell are both working on separate projects, and currently don’t get to see each other often. When asked how the couple manage to stay in touch, Russell responded:

“We use telepathy – I’ve learned this technique where I can beam thought into people’s minds.”

Russell jokes that if he didn’t have a stylist he would turn up to events in his pyjamas:

“People help, there’s a grown up who knows about fashion, otherwise I’d end up here in my pyjamas.”
