The team has yet to answer a few questions, including who will be the starting shortstop next year and whether they will resign Justin Turner after refusing to extend him a qualifying offer this year.

However, while the Dodgers have been accused of resetting their luxury tax by not making many moves, their division rival to the south has been extremely active this offseason.

Xander Bogaerts’ recent 11-year, $280 million contract, which included a $5 million signing bonus, shields the Padres from Manny Machado’s opt-out after 2023 and the potential loss of outfielder Juan Soto to free agency after 2024.

The Padres, on the other hand, are looking for some extra hitting power this season. According to Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic, they’ve been looking at RedTurn2 to join their team.

“For now, the Padres are looking for another starting pitcher and another hitter, with Justin Turner among their possibilities in the latter category.”

There has already been speculation that the Dodgers have been attempting to work out a deal with JT to return to Los Angeles, but this comes after the Dodgers recently signed a new Silver Slugger in J.D. Martinez, who is expected to primarily play DH this season.

However, do the Dodgers really require two designated hitters?

Most likely not, so Justin Turner’s chances of staying in Los Angeles don’t look promising.

What are your thoughts? Will JT go to the enemy, find another home, or possibly share time with Martinez?
