Police Say Substance Abuse “Unlikely” Cause of Cory Monteith Death

Police have said that ‘Glee’ actor Cory Monteith likely didn’t die because of substance abuse. Although they are still waiting for the results of the autopsy to determine the cause of death officially, it appears that it might not have been drug related after all. Cory was known for his struggles with alcohol and drugs, having completed a stint in rehab as recently as April, so it was quickly assumed that drugs/alcohol were involved in his untimely death. Even recovered alcoholic actor Matthew Perry decided to comment on Cory’s death, stating:

“When something like this happens, it’s so sad and tragic… it’s just sad and tragic. The upside of it, I can’t even talk about because there is no upside to this man losing his life. Fame does one thing that really hurts alcoholics which is it makes them feel, if they buy into the press, it makes them feel that they’re different. And that’s something that we can’t have.”

Coroner Lisa Lapointe told press:

“We do not have a great deal of information as to cause of death.”

A police officer commented that there was nothing to indicate the actor’s death was due to drug use.
