Overwatch 2 Bronze 5 Competitive Rank Bug

Since the start of Overwatch 2, fans have suspected that something was wrong with the Competitive Play system. The Bronze 5 bug has been the most common complaint among Overwatch 2 players. In this guide, we’ll go over the Bronze 5 bug in Overwatch 2 in greater detail and let players know if there’s anything they can do to fix it for the time being.

What exactly is the Overwatch 2 Bronze 5 bug ?

Overwatch 2 Bronze 5 bug

The Bronze 5 bug in Competitive Play prevents players from progressing past that level. After some players are assigned, they will be placed in Bronze 5 or lower. Some players will be unable to advance to the Silver and higher ranks after reaching Bronze 5, no no matter how many matches they win.

Bronze 5 bug has been fixed

The following fixes have been implemented to address ranking issues, per the official Overwatch 2 patch notes for update 3.38:

  • Many players were ranked too low during the first week of Overwatch 2, so we are implementing a boost as players continue to play games for those affected by this issue.
  • Players who were ranked too low could have the feeling of being stuck in this rank. Moving forward, players should be able to climb the ranks in their first rank update assuming they’re supposed to be higher based on their performance.
  • Players who haven’t ranked will not experience this issue after this patch.

It is clear from the patch notes above that players haven’t had any sort of ranking since the Overwatch 2 game’s release. Players won’t be able to obtain the rewards associated with ranking up as a result.

On the other hand, because rankings are far too generous, competitive play has recently been flooded with gold guns. This patch appears to have yet to address this issue, implying that the bug isn’t as widespread as the lower-ranking issues.

Blizzard appears to be on the trail of these launch issues. The question of why major features like ranking are having such a rocky launch remains unanswered, despite the number of beta tests and consistent feedback from the community.
