As you progress through Octopath Traveler 2, you’ll come across side stories like “Procuring Peculiar Tomes,” which are multi-part affairs. Due to the danger of reaching certain locations or the requirements to perform certain path actions, these frequently have to wait until members of your party reach level 35 or higher. So, if you want to assist the Montwise library with its books, it may take some time.
To complete this sidequest, you must obtain three books. Here is a complete list of what they are and where you can find them. Dispatches from Beasting Island will be the easiest to obtain, while The Curious Legend of the Great Wall will be one of the more difficult to obtain due to its location in Stormhail.
- Dispatches from Beasting Island: Buy or steal it from the Foreign Traveler next to the save point in Beasting Village. I had no trouble stealing it with Throne.
- From the Far Reaches of Hell: A troubled scholar will be blocking a door at Crackridge’s southernmost point. If Throne has progressed beyond level 30, she can ambush him and gain access to his home. The book is kept inside in a chest.
- The Curious Legend of the Great Wall: You can steal or buy it from the Archeologist at the southern entrance to Stormhail Snows. I paid 1,900 leaves for it with Partitio.
When you return all three books at once, the Unusual Tome Specialist to the left of the Montwise library will reward you with 6,500 leaves, a Librarian’s Amulet, and Refreshing Jam. She will also hint that another quest may eventually be associated with From the Depths of Hell.
