Natalie Portman Quits Veganism

Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman decided to quit being a vegan when she became pregnant because it felt right to eat the things her body was craving. Although she still doesn’t eat meat, Natalie is now on a less-strict vegetarian diet, at least for the remainder of her pregnancy. Natalie commented on her changing diet:

“I actually went back to being vegetarian when I became pregnant, just because I felt like I wanted that stuff, I was listening to my body to have eggs and dairy and that sort of stuff.”

Natalie warns that being a vegan can make it a challenge to get all nutrients required to stay healthy, especially when a pregnancy is involved. She said:

“I know there are people who do stay vegan, but I think you have to just be careful, watch your iron levels and your B12 levels and supplement those if there are things you might be low in in your diet.”

Natalie says that she has given in to her cravings for sweet things:

“If you’re not eating eggs, then you can’t have cookies or cake from regular bakeries, which can become a problem when that’s all you want to eat, I actually wanted eggs at the beginning and then they grossed me out after awhile.”

Opening up on the sex of her unborn baby, Natalie says she doesn’t plan to find out:

“People can say a lot of things and they have a 50 percent chance of being right, I’m Jewish and I think in Judaism, there’s a lot of superstition around not doing too much before the baby comes.”
