Mo’Nique’s Brother Is Disgusting On Multiple Levels

RadarOnline is reporting that Mo’nique is not happy about her brother’s interview on Oprah because it isn’t truthful or sympathetic enough. Oprah had Mo’Nique’s permission to have Gerald Imes on the show, as well as their parents, but the actress feels that her brother is still not being truthful about what he did. Obviously, her relationship with her family has been strained because of this, but now it’s even worse and might never improve.

Imes wanted to go on the show to apologize for his actions when he was 13 and his sister was 7 or 8, blaming it on his substance abuse and his own molestation. He reportedly abused his younger sister repeatedly for a year, and while he claims it was while she was asleep, Mo’Nique says that she was awake and that he knew she was scared of him.

The thing is, Imes apparently called Oprah’s show to volunteer an interview after his sister won a Best Supporting Actress for Precious. Mo’Nique’s been open about the personal connection she feels to the movie and the main character because of her own experiences, so it’s not like this was a huge secret, but it strikes me as really strange that he’d be so willing to air the family’s dirty laundry. I can’t figure out what he gains from publicly admitting that he’s an incestuous child-molester, but I also don’t know why he would continue to lie about the particulars when he’s already confessed to the worst of it. Basically, this situation is totally effed-up, and at this point I just feel bad for Mo’Nique for having to deal with it.
