Matt Damon calls Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt "prisoners" and values his own privacy

Like most celebrities, Matt Damon values the privacy he has. He feels a lot more fortunate than some of his fellow famous pals when it comes to living low-key. He says other stars are trapped by their fame and have to deal with photographers and media attention every time they step outside.

“I have friends who are like prisoners. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, for instance. They can’t just go someplace. If they go for a walk, it turns into an international incident.”

Damon thinks he is lucky that people don’t pay as much attention to his every move. He is able to have a successful acting career but can maintain some semblance of a normal life as well.

“I’m really lucky, because I have the best of both worlds. I do the work that I love and need, but don’t need paramilitary troops to protect me when I walk out my front door.”

Damon also attributes his lifestyle to having a family. Once he got married and had children, he chose to focus primarily on that aspect of his life. He and his family live in New York and stay away from tourist sports in order to avoid being noticed. Still, he insists most New Yorkers remain calm even if they recognize him. He believes this makes him less “crazy” than most other stars.
