- LeBron James – Questionable
When the Lakers play the Knicks, LeBron James’s status is in doubt.
Even though LeBron James is a month past his 38th birthday and is in his 20th NBA season, he hasn’t changed much.
But Father Time may keep him off the court on Tuesday night, when James’ Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to play the New York Knicks in the first game of the season between the two teams.
James missed LA’s game on Monday because he hurt his left foot or ankle. Lakers coach Darvin Ham said Monday afternoon that James’ foot pain is “really significant” and that the 18-time All-Star will be checked again on Tuesday.
James has been hurt and missed 11 games this season, but he is still averaging 30.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, which are both close to his best single-season marks. In 2005-06, he averaged 31.4 points per game for Cleveland. In 2016-17 and 2017-18, he averaged 8.6 rebounds per game for the Cavaliers.
James almost had a triple-double in the Lakers’ 125-121 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics on Saturday. He scored 41 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and gave out eight assists. With his 74th 40-point game, James moved within 117 points of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most 40-point games in NBA history.
- Anthony Davis – Questionable
Davis came off the bench in back-to-back games after being out for more than a month with a foot injury. Davis’s absence for the first half of the Lakers’ next back-to-back set seems to be a matter of managing his workload, but it’s still worrying to see him back on the injury report.
THE KNICKS
The Brooklyn Nets beat the New York Knicks by a score of 122-115 in their last game. New York had trouble scoring, so they will have to do a better job if they want to beat the Lakers at home in this game.
The Knicks will be looking to snap out of their latest valley in what has become a roller coaster of a season. The loss to the Nets was the fifth in seven games for New York.
