On the hardwood in the Motor City, the two worst teams in the Eastern Conference square off against one another. Friday night finds the Charlotte Hornets in Detroit to take on the Pistons on the road.

Although the Hornets hold a slim 62-60 advantage in the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Pistons have won the last two meetings. One of those victories was a 141-134 overtime road victory on December 14, 2022.

THE HORNETS

The Charlotte Hornets was on the road in the Windy City Thursday night as they took on the Bulls in the front half of their back-to-back set. The Hornets entered Thursday just 15-37 on the season and sat in the basem*nt of the Southeast Division, 14 games behind the Heat for the top spot.

They were 14th in the Eastern Conference standings, 22 games behind Boston for the top spot, 14 games behind Miami for the final guaranteed spot and nine games back of Indiana for the final spot in the play-in tournament.

The Chicago Bulls defeated the Charlotte Hornets 114-98 on Thursday night.

After recording a triple-double in Tuesday night’s loss in Milwaukee, LaMelo Ball tacked on 19 points, eight rebounds, and six assists before being ejected with 1:21 to play. After LaVine blocked his layup, he became irate and received two technical fouls for protesting the referee’s decision, costing him a late-game ejection.

Martin has only played one game this season. In November, he had knee surgery, and he is still out at this point.

Meanwhile, Oubre Jr. (thumb) last played on December 29 against the Thunder and had surgery. He is expected to be out until some point in February.

Joseph (back) has kept him out of the last three games, and Diallo was sick on Monday and didn’t play. Both of them are considered day-to-day, so keep an eye out for updates on their health for this game.

Cunningham hasn’t played since November 9 because he hurt shin. On December 11, it was announced that he would have surgery to end his season.

Bagley III’s last game was on January 2, and he had surgery on his hand on the same day. He is expected to be out until at least the middle of February.
