Hunting for Celeb Looks? Try Medical Tourism

Looking normal can be an absolute nightmare sometimes, can’t it? You’re not Jennifer Lawrence, Beyoncé or any of the perfectly coiffed, preened and pretty who light up your television. Instead, you’ve got the jaw structure of Mickey Rooney and the facial features of an out of date ham.

But you’re not alone – and the solution to your problems could be just a holiday away.

Medical tourism, in which people travel to other countries to take advantage of improved healthcare, is on the rise, especially for cosmetic surgery. In some parts of the world, it’s now a major business.

In Asia, for example, people are flocking to aesthetic clinics to enjoy five-star treatments and care.

The reason for this influx is clear – the luxury offered by these places Is unparalleled. From the moment you step off the plane, you’ll be given a limousine chauffeur, driven to the clinic for treatment and find polite, caring and conscientious staff.

And the staff are an intrinsic part of the appeal. Thanks to the sheer number of treatments in the region, Asia has some of the most experienced surgeons in the world.

The rise and rise of cosmetic surgery

Just a decade ago, you’d have never seen such an open embrace of cosmetic surgery in Asia.

But now, partially thanks to beauty bloggers happily showing off their latest cosmetic touch-ups, the former taboo has entered the public consciousness, with a slew of celebs coming out of the surgical closet.

This is, in part, thanks to the surgeries shifting focus from no-frills surgical procedure to over-arching centres focusing on the mental as well as the physical wellbeing of patients.

In many ways, it’s led to a more enlightened view of plastic surgery, with many people actively appreciating the levels some go to for beauty. Rather than the criticism levelled at it a few years ago, plastic surgery is injecting the economy with billions of dollars and meeting widespread approval.

And with these billions comes more research into new and exciting procedures. Even non-invasive procedures are developing, moving from ineffective to a viable alternative to going under the knife in just a few years.

As celebrity culture continues to ride high and our new idols take the form of the glitzy and the glamorous, we can expect the use of cosmetic surgery to increase, especially in Asia. According to British newspaper The Daily Mail, surgery in the region has become so effective that patients have to be given certificates by hospitals to prove who they are!

It’s a sure sign that quality is at a premium in surgeries across Asia, and it’s allowing all those who feel normal gain a touch of celeb glamour.
